Update: 24/04/2025: John is settling well in his new Home and doing well!
As we approach John’s 4th anniversary with Sunrise2Sunrise, we’re proud to celebrate a significant milestone in his journey — his move into a new Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) home in Harkness.
This transition has been a long time in the making and is the result of careful planning, coordination, and unwavering support from John’s care team, family, and the dedicated staff at Sunrise2Sunrise. It marks an exciting new chapter in his adult life — one built around greater comfort, choice, and independence.

A Home That Supports His Everyday Life
John’s new SDA home offers features that have made a noticeable difference in his daily routine. A standout is the thoughtfully designed kitchen, where he can observe and participate in meal preparation. This seemingly small change has created a deeper sense of involvement and ownership in his everyday life.

Another meaningful feature is his access to an outdoor area, allowing him to enjoy natural light and spend quiet time in a private space. Given how much time he spends indoors, this outdoor access contributes to both his well-being and emotional regulation.
Celebrating John’s Progress — and Advocating for Others
John’s story highlights the positive impact of well-matched accommodation. It shows what can be achieved when a participant is placed in an environment that suits their support needs and respects their individuality.

Sunrise2Sunrise is actively engaged in advocating for improved SDA funding to ensure participants receive housing that truly meets their complex needs — behavioural, social, and therapeutic.
This includes ongoing efforts for individuals like John, who continues to wait for a home that supports his specific support requirements and promotes his overall well-being.
John’s progress is a reminder of what’s possible — and why purpose-built housing options must be made more accessible to all who need them.
A Thank You to Everyone Involved
We want to take this opportunity to thank John’s family, his support network, and our dedicated staff. Your trust and collaboration have been instrumental in helping John reach this point.
We’re proud to have been part of his journey over the past four years and look forward to supporting him through this exciting new stage of life.
