Matt’s Story as a House Manager at Sunrise2Sunrise

At Sunrise2Sunrise, we believe that people are at the heart of everything we do. Matt is a shining example of this commitment.

In a recent video, Matt shares what it is like to work in the disability support sector, the challenges and rewards of the job, and why he feels at home with the Sunrise2Sunrise team.

Matt’s Story as a House Manager

From Personal Experience to Professional Passion

Matt currently serves as our Community Services Officer and House Manager, but his journey began well before that.

With a background as a support worker, team leader, and house manager, Matt has built a deep understanding of the NDIS sector through lived experience and professional dedication.

His motivation to enter this field came from a very personal place, having a child who is an NDIS participant.

“I’ve got a a young fellow that is an NDIS participant. So, based on that, I sort of just fell into the field, I guess… and since then, I’ve been a duck in water. I love it. I love my job. Love everything about it.”

How Matt Supports Our Clients

Matt oversees a team of support workers and works closely with clients, their families, and stakeholders to ensure that participants receive care tailored to their needs and preferences.

As part of the community intake team, he visits new clients, builds strong connections, and helps match them with the right support staff.

For Matt, the job is not about titles. It is about people.

“I go out and meet all the new community clients and try and build the relationships, find a good suitable support workers that meet their needs and their ideals and try and build good relationships and make a difference in people’s lives.”

Real Stories and Real Impact

Matt has seen firsthand how quality support can transform lives.

From helping a young participant reconnect with family to overcoming a fear of heights during a visit to the MCG, he shares powerful moments that reflect the heart of his work.

“I had a participant that didn’t really want to engage with the family. And after a long long couple years with that, we’ve finally got him doing family things and actually actively wanting to spend time with the family”

A Culture of Connection

At Sunrise2Sunrise, relationships matter. Matt highlights how even a regular morning at the office starts with connection, warmth, and community.

“We are a pretty good team like from Ravi and Krishna down they know who everyone is and every morning everyone’s saying good day to each other.”

Behind Every Happy Moment

Matt acknowledges that the job comes with its challenges. There is often a lot of unseen work involved in creating the joyful moments shared on social media.

“You see photos of us going to the footy or going to the beach and doing that, but you don’t see the dayto-day stuff that we deal with….”

Why Matt Loves This Work

For Matt, this is not just a job; it’s a passion. It is a lifelong mission. He encourages others with a caring mindset to consider a career in the field.

“Most rewarding career I’ve ever encountered and I anticipate I’ll be doing it until I can’t do it anymore.”
