What is a Psychosocial Recovery Coach?
A Psychosocial recovery coach is a qualified professional who supports people with psychosocial disabilities to achieve recovery goals and improve daily living.
Recovery coaches work closely with participants to:
- Create and implement a recovery plan
- Build life skills and confidence
- Coordinate NDIS and mainstream supports
- Promote self-advocacy and decision-making
- Provide guidance through mental health challenges
What does a Psychosocial Recovery Coach do?
A Psychosocial recovery coach supports participants by building capacity, coordinating services, and guiding mental health recovery. They focus on long-term outcomes and personal growth.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing a recovery-oriented support plan
- Assisting with housing, education, employment, and health access
- Helping participants manage their NDIS supports
- Encouraging resilience and social participation
- Providing mentoring and motivation

What is a Psychosocial Disability?
A psychosocial disability is a disability caused by a mental health condition that significantly affects a person’s ability to function day to day.
Not everyone with a mental illness has a psychosocial disability. The NDIS provides support for those whose condition creates a long-term functional impact.
What is Recovery Coaching?
Recovery coaching is an NDIS-funded support that helps people with psychosocial disability build skills, coordinate services, and manage their mental health recovery. It is included under the Support Coordination category of an NDIS plan.
Who can access Recovery Coaching?
Recovery coaching is available to NDIS participants with a psychosocial disability who have Support Coordination funding in their plan.
If your current plan doesn’t include it, you can request it during a plan reassessment. Sunrise2Sunrise can assist with this process.
